In his gripping new book, Strandings, Carleton Ray takes readers on a behind-the-scenes journey into the unseen world of whale scavenging. As a former employee of a whale salvage company, Ray witnessed firsthand the gruesome and often heartbreaking reality of this industry.
Through vivid prose and haunting imagery, Ray describes the process of butchering whales, from the initial cuts to the final removal of the blubber. He recounts the challenges of working in extreme weather conditions, the physical and emotional toll of the job, and the ethical dilemmas that he and his crew faced.
But Strandings is more than just a firsthand account of a gruesome job. It is also a call to action for marine conservation. Ray reveals the devastating impact that industrial whaling and other human activities are having on the world's whale populations. He argues that we must take action now to protect these magnificent creatures before it is too late.
Strandings is a powerful and important book that will change the way you think about whales. It is a must-read for anyone interested in marine conservation, environmentalism, or the human condition.
